Unlike the way most people imagine addicts and alcoholics as people who should be locked away in treatment facilities, P.S. Kishore, M.D., M.P.H., founder and Medical Director, had a vision that changed the course of addiction medicine. He believes that addiction is essentially a primary care illness and should be treated as such in the community. His vision began with his first primary care practice in Brighton in 1996 and has grown to 17 offices throughout the state serving more than 12,000 patients per year. Dr. Kishore believes that addictions should be treated with the same vigor as those with heart disease, and with the same respect.

In addition to providing most services in one of the offices as an outpatient, many of Addiction Medicine Associates’ patients can be treated in a Home Detox program, in conjunction with a responsible caregiver, often a friend or family member who brought them for detox treatment. All of the offices take a medical and psycho-social approach to addictions, treating the whole person and allowing them to maintain their positions in the community. Those with addictions to alcohol, opiates, pain medications and other substances, can easily be the waitress who serves your coffee, the sweet student next door, the businessman, politician or member of your church. The face of addiction crosses all lines of age, gender, race, religion, and occupation.

Women’s Health & Sobriety Support Group

As females, we see the world very different from males. In many cases our struggles with sobriety and life are not at all similar as we face different stresses and obstacles in our daily life.

This support group is open only to women. This allows for women to speak freely about the issues that we have encountered in our lives and the opportunity to get feedback from other females who are on the road to sobriety. In addition, female NPs, PAs, and RNs will assist in answering medical questions relevant to females. Each session will start with a 10 minute talk about a women’s health issue. Then the floor will be open for questions, comments, or any concerns about your health or sobriety.

This group will be co-lead by Liz Ransom, Physician Assistant at Preventive Medicine Associates and Christina D., a patient who has been sober for 4 months.

It is an intellectual gathering place for nonprofit and community organizations working to overcome the effects of addiction on the community.
